The central shell was press-molded from a toxic and volatile compound, and supposedly contained one measure of the Fountain of Youth. Recipients were warned that tampering with the metallic setting or the shell itself would trigger its disintegration. The alternative was to watch as the object of their desires gradually vanished through moisture-driven sublimation.
