Book launch excitement, Preorders, and Little Free Libraries

May 12, 2023

Hoot hoot fellow Owlish friends!

I am sitting out on my deck at the end of a beautiful week of Wisconsin weather. It's the first week that really feels like spring is finally here to stay—we got tricked a few times. But with this warm weather comes all of the end of school-year things. It seems every day something special is happening at the elementary school and, by some sort of miracle, I have remembered it all! Although, I did have to swing by the school office this afternoon to drop off my overdue RSVP to the "End of Year Hotdog Picnic."

Things, as usual, are just as busy inside the Nest as they are in our homes and schools. Next Monday we release Hertz Gets Fused. We have physical copies in our basement "warehouse" ready to go. And preorders are on their way! You can still order yours here. I brought home my copy the other day. It was quickly commandeered by my oldest, Fox, who started reading it immediately and declared it "GREAT!" Which is about as excellent an endorsement from an almost-fourth-grader that you could wish for. I knew it was a hit when I heard him cackling from the other room while reading—it really is such a funny book!

We also just opened for preorders of our next Teen release, a historical fantasy and retelling of a Russian folktale called The Carver and the Queen by Emma C. Fox. Russian-inspired fantasy is a genre all its own and if you've never experienced it, you're in for a treat! If you feel the need to dip your toes into this sub-genre before The Carver and the Queen's release in October, try reading the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden (starting with The Bear and the Nightingale). But also make sure to preorder The Carver and the Queen. We really do rely on preorders, so spread the word!

Finally, thank you to those of you who have given to our wishlist item—a Little Free Library. I have long loved the idea behind Little Free Libraries—community-driven book sharing where you take a book and leave a book. Every LFL is run by a volunteer who curates and organizes the books in their care. And there's even an app that shares the location of (most) LFLs. Karin and I think an Owl's Nest inspired Little Free Library would be a fun, creative, and organic way to start sharing about Owl's Nest in our community. We love that at least a few of you are on board. If you feel inspired, you can also help us make this small dream a reality. Just look how sweet this Little Free Library is and tell me you don't want to see an Owlish one in the world:

With that, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! If you are able and willing, make sure to wish your mama (or any Mom-ish types in your life) a very Happy Mother's Day! Speaking as a mom myself, I know how much it means to me.

Until Nest Time,

Katie
